So I generally stick to Lego-brand stuff, but when it comes to military stuff, one has to seek other options. I've gotten burned by a couple Chinese tanks, but fell in love with Cobi after one kit (their Sherman EZ8 is brilliant). I found a second-hand bucket of military-themed Tyco Super Blocks at a local antique store a while back, but it was missing parts, so they mostly sat in the bucket.
But recently, my dad got into the Amazon Vine program- basically they send him (or us) stuff to review for free. One of the options was a set of Lego-compatible gear- weapons, armor, etc- that also comes with six minifigures. Shortly after assembling and reviewing them (they look great, esp for the price, but they DO have fitment issues), I remembered the Tyco bucket, and MOCed a not-Lego troop carrier for my not-Lego squad of soldiers. Then I Bricklink'ed a bunch of 1x1 clip tiles to build a gun wall for the surplus armaments.
It's been a fun week.
