I have one of these, or visually similar https://www.amazon.com/Converter-Charging-Compatible-Chromebook-Aluminium/dp/B07MPF87GT
The HDMI is just bad, a lot of interference and the image looks burned. Maybe it can be used to watch YouTube on a tv or for presentations, I can’t work with it. The USB is ok, I plug the power cable on the USB-C port and a USB-A hub. This hub have a webcam, a sound interface, a lamp, and everything works. For the display I use a thunderbolt-DP cable, that I plug into my MacBook, no adaptors.
I’ve got a better one, but the HDMI output is 30 hz, the flickering is annoying. Also, it heats.
Also: I’ve got a cheap USB-C hub with 4 USB-A ports. It worked. Then, a 7 USB-A, that crashes my Mac and restarts it. But these were even cheaper.
