Those are for urban areas with strong signals.

Yea I just moved out here from the Denver area and got around 40 channels with that antenna, I feel like I got my money out of it so no big loss there.

My dad said he tried this one out and it didn't work so he returned it, to me it looked like a pile of plastic.

We would prefer to have an outdoor antenna if possible. Should I be looking at getting a separate amplifier or are antennas with the amp bundled okay? I'm not even sure where to start looking other than here.

Mohu Leaf is a popular brand that has gotten good reviews from friends in areas not tall/thick tree heavy.

I got this one for my mom and it works great http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Ultra-Thin-Indoor-HDTV-Antenna/dp/B00DIFIO8E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1442356398&sr=8-2&keywords=hdtv+antenna she live near campus and has little in tall trees around her house.

I have this one because I live in a heavily tree'd area of town, have it on a pole 18" up in the air..works fantastic. http://www.amazon.com/Amplified-Digital-Motorized-Rotation-Infrared/dp/B004NQMCDK/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1442356398&sr=8-7&keywords=hdtv+antenna

congrats on cutting the cord, I did it about 4 years ago and have not regretted it one bit. My set up besides the OTA channels from the antenna include a roku with sling tv subscription for football/collegebasketball seasons. In May that will go away until football starts again ($25 a month) I also use Usenet daily to DL the other TV shows I want to view.. If you go the roku route ck out channelpear
