I recently purchased this one from amazon and it was so worth it. It's pretty big, but I'd highly recommend it for making backpacking meals. I like to dehydrate things in large quantities to save time, so a small dehydrator wouldn't cut it for me. So far I've dried apples, pineapples, banana chips, strawberries, kale, hummus, tomatoes, zucchini chips, granola, crackers, and almond milk. They all came out great and now I have batches of those things for future trail meals.
I have some hummus drying right now, and tonight I plan on making and drying a huge batch of beef, bean, and veggie chili. I'll also be trying some chicken breast jerky tomorrow. This thing is great! It has nine shelves and it even comes with fruit roller trays and a meat hanging rack. I'd also recommend getting the 10 pack of silicone dehydrator sheets if you purchase it. It keeps things like granola, chili, hummus, almond milk, and small fruits like blueberries from falling through.
Oh, and it has stainless steel racks too! That's something to think about if plastic touching your food concerns you. Imo this dehydrator is on par with the more expensive excalibur dehydrators. I know that it's a bit over your price point, but like I said, I think it's worth it. Especially if you want to save time and dehydrate large batches of food for backpacking.
