not required but it dampens the ride from drops, cracks and impacts (it protects your deck a bit, but is primarily used to eliminate wheelbite)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077HYF2TY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its super easy to put a board together all you gotta do is bolt it together. Your trucks should be loose, determine this by loosening your truck nuts then slowly tightening them until you can no longer rotate the bushing washer with your hands. IF you are a beginner, tighten your trucks so they dont move as much then loosen them after a few months of riding when you are nice and confident about your balance, this tightness is usually after you tighten your washer til it cant rotate, rotate or turn your washer approx 2 1/2 turns, if it still feels loose do one more turn, until you feel your trucks not turning as much (yes this is not recomended for regular riding as an experienced rider, but as a beginer you will need it). when you add your truck bolts tighten them but not to the point where you start cracking the deck because its soo tight.
