I haven't used any fancy filtering either, so I can't say from personal experience. But I have done a bit of research into it, when I was considering whether or not to get a Buon Vino Mini Jet Filter and this is what I learned:
On the Buon Vino, they have 3 filter pads:
Mind you, the liquid is being pushed (pulled?) through with a mechanical pump, so it's likely better able to filter than just using gravity, especially at the 0.5 micron level.
In the end, kinda like what /u/ouchouchdangit has done, I decided to get some cheesecloth tea bags and put my ingredients in that during maceration. It has made additional straining and filtering basically unnecessary (for my homemade stuff that only I drink and see). Plus, it's easy to press/squeeze the bags to get out absorbed liquid.
If you decide to get the filtering bags you're looking into, I'd be very curious to see how it goes for you! Please report back.
