Right, right, there are a lot of different C-C cables out there, alas. This excellent blog post has a list.

A so called charging only or USB 2.0 cable will not work. You need something which is marketed for 5gbps, 10gbps, 20gpbs, USB 3.1... Marketing is confusing.
