I used the same power and USB cables, and this HDMI cable: http://www.amazon.com/CNE498374-High-Speed-HDMI-Extension-Cable/dp/B01953WQ2W (15 ft.)... and it DIDN'T work. I haven't experimented much with it though... I just set the cables aside and when back to playing. ;-) My current space isn't that big, so I was hoping I could drag it to the living room instead of computer room.
When I first hooked it up, the video was all scrambled, and then I tried unplugging and re-plugging, and it would no longer show anything (tried rebooting the headset through Steam VR). I didn't try adding each cable individually, but I'll do that eventually.
I just swapped from HDMI to DisplayPort today (I have one HDMI port and 3 DisplayPort ports on my video card, so I'd rather use DP for the Vive), so having the box do the conversion may change my results as well (haven't tried yet).
