You might want to get a good bow-tie or even a yagi setup in your attic or outdoor. Even-though it says 1 edge, you might be getting some multi path issues. If multi path is an issue, a good yagi may resolve it. Usually multi-path rarely an issue with digital, but it can still cause signal quality issues. Have you tried a good pair of rabbit-ears?
HDTV 40 Mile Yagi Television Antenna
Stellar Labs HDTV Off-Air UHF Antenna, Compact, Side/Roof Mount, up to 40 Miles
I'm in the New London area. I'm about the same distance as you from Hartford, and channels 3, 30, and 61 come in great with my attic antenna. I also get channel 20 out of Waterbury most of the time. I only got channel 8 with a separate antenna and when there were no leaves on the trees.
This is the antenna I have. https://www.amazon.com/GE-33692-Attic-Mount-Antenna/dp/B00DNJZ58M
I have a GE Attic mount antenna. Specifically this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DNJZ58M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_1C91FbXNZVR3R?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I live in the Hampton Cove/OXR area and use a GE Attic Mount antenna with a Monoprice splitter. It might be overkill being so close to the big four, but it does pick up the CW and other misc channels with ease.
Yikes... that really sucks ... this makes for a good argument for dealing with local stores only for easy no bs returns... or at least dealing with Amazon, etc directly and always avoiding any third-party sellers ...but I know that's not always possible ...and hindsight is 20/20...
But anyway, here's a few antennas for you to consider from various sources, some of which are hopefully local for you, like Walmart... and if not, other local stores like Lowe's or Home Depot, etc probably hopefully have similar antennas at similar prices...
these antennas are all $41 or less and some even come with coax, a mast and mounting hardware... and most or all of them should fit fairly easily in most ATTIC spaces... an attic is a GREAT place for an antenna for MANY reasons:

a $30 STELLAR LABS VHF/UHF complete outdoor or attic tv antenna Kit, model 30-2485
but maybe substitute the supplied 50 feet of RG59 with RG6 coax IF you have any really WEAK UHF signals, otherwise the RG59 is probably ok... it's certainly more than enough to get you started... you can change it to RG6 later if you need to:
