I don't like the Makita cordless stick vacuum, it has a very basic filter and no cyclones so it gets clogged very quickly and it's messy to knock the dust off.
If you are looking for a good cordless stick vacuum look for a vacuum with removable and replaceable batteries. Batteries wear out in 2-5 years and if you cannot replace it the whole thing is trash.
Dyson, LG, and Samsung make above-average cordless vacuums. I like the LG CordZero and Samsung Jet better than the Dyson because many of their models include 2 batteries and a charging stand for less than the price of the comparable Dyson.
The LG CordZero A9 is $298 at Home Depot and it comes with 2 batteries, the charging stand, the standard combo and crevice tools, and the mini motorized brush. If you have a majority of hard floors I'd look for a model with the soft brushroll, it's much better on hard floors than the standard powerhead.
The Hoover Onpwer cordless vacuums all have removable batteries and are less expensive but less powerful than LG and Samsung. The Hoover Onepwr Evolve $169 is a standout because it's more like a small upright vacuum. Its weight is near the bottom, it stands up on its own, it has a bigger dirt cup, and it can turn off the brushroll for hard floors. No hose or tools.
