Well, I have half of the solution. The 15' HDMI cable (amazon basics, link below) works great. Unfortunately, the headset is not recognized when using the USB extender. I meant to purchase a passive cable, and I ended up with an active one - perhaps that is the problem. I will order another part and let you know if I have any success.
