Thanks for the response. I saw that there were some recommendations on here for https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6448Q4/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 along with positive reviews amazon. I also bought a wired mic in case the wireless don't work.

I also ended up switching soundbars to https://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-v-series-2-1-channel-sound-bar-system-with-wireless-subwoofer-black/6416782.p?skuId=6416782.

My plan is to have the TV connected directly to the soundbar for regular use with an HDMI cable and to the mixer with the 3.5mm TV output/mixer input. The mixer will be connected to the soundbar with the 3.5mm output. Would there be any benefit to connect the mixer to the soundbar with a 1/4" to optical cord or 1/4" to 3.5mm cord?

I really don't expect to use this for karaoke more than once a month, but if it is something we start using more often, I would definitely look into a dedicated speaker and a higher quality mixer. For now, I'm investing $70 to test the waters and $130 on a soundbar to improve the TV experience.

Short answer: You're not going to be able to able to meet your requirements without a mixer. You need a mixer to combine the singing and music before it gets routed to the Yamaha. It could be something as simple as this

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6448Q4

or this

https://www.amazon.com/Soundboard-Interface4-channel-Bluetooth-Streaming/dp/B0B884KR1B?th=1

Longer answer: Your AV receiver and speakers were never designed to sing though. You could damaged them. I recommend a separate powered PA speaker, which are designed for singing. Although it is possible to connect a mic to the laptop using the mic input port I don't recommend it.

Sorry about that, I was on mobile. All you really need is a wireless mike system. I think I paid about $70 for the one I'm using.

Hook up is simple. Audio out from whatever device is running the Youtube Karaoke songs to the mic's transmitter/mixer box. Audio out from that box to your speakers. The mic's mixer box will have some very basic controls allowing you to mix the volume of the mics to the music.

This is the one I bought a coupla years ago. Still working fine for my monthly karaoke party.

Hi DavidO - thanks for the data!

I'm torn between the 12" Pyle system referenced above and the equipment you have in your other suggestion (see below) that comes to about the same cost (the Pyle is about $40 more). This is for simple home family use and small parties, etc. I'd be using my existing stereo for the music, so the speaker is purely for vocals. I'm kind of leaning to the Pyle as it is all in one package versus the Rockville/Fifine combo below. It's also 12" ve 10" on the Rockville so I'm assume that is "better". Is there much else between them??

$67 - Fifine UHF Dual Channel Wireless Handheld Microphone, Easy-to-use Karaoke Wireless Microphone System-K036

$160 - Rockville RPG10BT V2 10" Powered 600W DJ PA Speaker Bluetooth/Wireless/Remote/EQ, 10”

I agree with the others. Never ever sing out of home audio speakers just not capable of handling human voice for singing. Mackie thump is solid for speaker. Get a cheap laptop and use something like Karafun or even just youtube for your songs. You can hdmi out to your tv or even use the laptop itself for your screen. I weld also get rid of your mics/mixer those are not for karaoke.

If you dont have alot of money you can use these mics https://www.amazon.com/Fifine-UHF-Dual-Channel-Wireless-Handheld-Microphone-Karaoke-Wireless-Microphone-System-K036/dp/B01N6448Q4/ref=sr_1_18?crid=JS1QWBVJVT7Y&keywords=fifine+mic&qid=1647613214&sprefix=fifine+mic%2Caps%2C236&sr=8-18 They are not perfect but work well enough and have built in reverb which is nice. I have used them many times and fine for home use.

A little mixer would be nice as well. My choice is this Mackie https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0849LT2HD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 tons of features and tons of vocal presets for you.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Get a mixer with effects like echo and reverb otherwise you will sound very dry.

I recommend something cheap and dedicated to karaoke instead of a studio mixer, at least for the start. Something like this if you are in the US:

https://www.amazon.com/Fifine-UHF-Dual-Channel-Wireless-Handheld-Microphone-Karaoke-Wireless-Microphone-System-K036/dp/B01N6448Q4

Or if you have the mics already:

https://www.amazon.com/Fifine-UHF-Dual-Channel-Wireless-Handheld-Microphone-Karaoke-Wireless-Microphone-System-K036/dp/B01N6448Q4

You don’t need Shure mics. I’ve hosted parties on such a set which cost 25€ in Europe with two mics included.

You are correct, you don't absolutely need a mixer.

If you get something like this Fifine it already has the mixer built in

https://www.amazon.com/Fifine-UHF-Dual-Channel-Wireless-Handheld-Microphone-Karaoke-Wireless-Microphone-System-K036/dp/B01N6448Q4

It can adjust the volume of the mics and the music.

Just plug the output into a powered speaker and you should be good to go.
