Still no solution. The second cable arrived and it also did not work. Links to the two cables I used are below in case you want to rule them out of your own searches. (I am using a Dell Visor with a Radeon RX580 - 8GB).

Though I'm not currently running that setup any longer (4 dongles for 2 different towers) I did have a setup doing that very thing. I used a small DIY 8-radial ground plane antenna crudely tuned to approximately 780 Mhz and mounted outside 25 feet high. I'm surrounded by high powered radio broadcast towers so I needed to add filters. The setup was antenna --> feed line --> FM Block --> AM Block --> LNA --> 4-way Splitter --> feeds to the dongles --> dongles (4) --> Powered USB Hub --> Active usb extension cable --> PC
Although the LNA is BIAS-T compatible I was never able to get it to work properly through the splitter so I drilled a hole in the metal case and soldered in power leads from a DROK voltage regulator that itself was plugged into the powered usb hub's power socket. This added the benefit of allowing me to vary the amount of boosting.
The antenna was made using 14 gauge house wire on a lid from a plastic jar, secured with solder, hot glue, and silicone.
I've listed the other parts I used below. The usb hub is no longer available from amazon but it's just a standard powered USB 3.0 hub. If using a hub, be careful of how it's powered. I've found it's better to stay with a wall wart style power adapter but your results may differ. I tried 3 different higher powered usb hubs that use the laptop-style power adapters and they ALL introduced a terrible amount of noise to the setup. The usb extension cable was to distance everything from the noisy pc and its power supply. I also added a bunch of ferrite rings to the ends of every usb cable and to the main feed cable end right before the filters. I don't know how much this helped but at the very least it gave me a positive placebo effect from it. :)

It could be the port you have it plugged into.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the cable I have, and use. $18, built in signal booster, and 16 feet long.
It sounds like you have yours plugged into a USB 2.0 port.
This is the 10M / 32ft fiber optic HDMI cable I purchased:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YBLGPXR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And this is the USB hub I used:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014ZQ07NE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I should also mention that I went with an HDMI cable instead of displayport because it is easy to convert from displayport to HDMI output if I need more HDMI ports, but not the other way around, and most monitors support HDMI.
I should also mention my current monitor is HDMI only so I needed HDMI anyway, and I have been considering upgrading my monitor to a larger one, in which case I'd put my older smaller one in the living room, which would require a second HDMI output from a card that only has one and three displayports... hence my mention of liking the ease of converting displayport to HDMI.
And here is the active USB cable I used:
Since it is a bit shorter than I needed, only 5M / 16ft) but it's what I already had (originally purchased for a third Oculus sensor), I bought a longer cable for the hub, which has one of those square USB jacks on it so you can replace the cable. I figured since the distance from the repeater on the active cable wouldn't be that far, it would still work, and it did.
And in case anyone's interested, I have the tracker dongles all running off a single USB C port with this hub, and they work fine:
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-4-Port-Portable-Smallest-HB-MNCB/dp/B078JZQD7R/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1
Do be aware that the cable on that hub is attached to it, and it's very short, so I have the sensors on longer USB cables running up to a table away from the PC. It may be more ideal to use a different hub with a longer cable and just plug the sensors into it. But the sensors are a bit wide so you gotta take care to get a hub which they can fit side by side on.

And the peace de resistance, the hub I bought from Walmart
Keep in mind that my current configuration is now pc to powered USB hub #1 to USB extender to unpowered USB hub number two to hmd
I've got a pretty gnarly setup with the pulleys, with the last four pulleys set in the triangle configuration so that I can move through 360°. Doubling up certain sections compensated for the weight of the long cords and now the entire setup hugs the ceiling pretty well!
I bought the typical three Vive trackers and one lighthouse and fiddled with a few add-ons to steam VR to get it all to play together with my Odyssey plus headset. With one more lighthouse I might be able to fill my very large play area finally.
One very important note ....you'll get carried away playing games and dancing like a fool when you're free to move around your play space and that can definitely torque the cords and yank them out of the headset causing the thing to go dead permanently. Even spinning in place too many times can permanently damage the cable and it's bye bye VR for a while.
I've reinforced the cord Management on the headset with gorilla tape to make absolutely sure the line has some extra resistance from being yanked out of the motherboard. That's what happened the day I got the full body setup I'd been saving up for for months.
I slapped the trackers on, adjusted the lighthouse , fiddled up with the software and an hour later I was raving out like an idiot and permanently killed my Lenovo explorer.
I'm fairly sure it was the 720 spin plus the full split that I dropped partying with friends after a few drinks in VRC. The screen went black and in a panic I spent the next three hours until 4:00 a.m. fiddling with the cord and reinstalling drivers and software. I fought back tears as I dipped into my savings and bought a new headset the next day, begging like an addict going cold turkey for the seller to expedite shipping and boost insurance.
I want to save anyone freeing up their play space from the emotional trauma that I experienced. Make sure your cord wrangling is secure and make sure your headset isn't getting torqued from you turning too much. They even make steam VR add-ons to give you a visual cue at your feet when you turn your body
VR technology is fascinating and cool but is anything but ruggedized for now!

This is what I use, never had an issue.
Thanks for posting this! I've spent close to $200 in cables and adapters to try to fix this problem- everything is fine with stock, but i started using the KIWI pulley system to make the cables more manageble, which is awesome!
Here is a link if anyone is unfamiliar with KIWI:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VQZYN3M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It makes it so that the cables
But using that, you need to have extensions- i used this to extend the display port cable:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DWW36MG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That works with no problem. But whenever i try to extend the USB, i get horrible audio noise, so much so that it's unuseable. This is what i've tried so far:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZV6FHWF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071DMMW4J/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BS8SRWH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And i've tried them in all different combinations- as you can see one of the usb cables is an active usb extension, that didn't seem to help.
I did find a thread where someone found a powered USB hub- others have used other powered USB hubs that didn't work, but this partcular hub seemed to work, someone else who otherwise couldn't find a solution later bought the same hub and fixed the same problem. But this hub is from a foreign site, and i haven't found an equivelant on amazon yet.
Here is the link to the usb hub that worked for two people that tried: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZV6FHWF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In short- extending the cables has been no problem for the video, but whichever USB extension i use doesn't work- i always get horrible noise and distortion. I'm using a laptop that has usb3 ports. It also has one of the USB type c extensions- i've tried getting different converters to go from usb 3 to usbc, but i always end up with win10 telling me that there is an unrecognized device, and unable to point it to a driver that it likes.
If we can all compare notes, maybe we can find a solution. I mentioned i've spent a ton of different cables and adapters, i don't mind spending more if anyone has suggestions... I know for a fact that some people have gotten a USB extension to work- i just haven't been able to find anyone who will specify exactly which they are using, other than the link above, which i won't be able to buy from..
Thanks very much for suggestion,
This worked for us as well.

And since there is enough cord for ceiling mount now:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GV8CNPW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Total of $175, but closest I can get to wireless for now.
Is the end of the cable that you plug into your headset straight or L shaped? It doesn't sound like your port is broken, unless you were flailing your arms, and snatched it out. Sounds more like the cable itself is too loose. Get a bread tie, or something you can use to attach the cable to the side of your headset. That will keep the cable from shaking itself out of the port when you move your head around.
This is the cable that I have. $18 on Amazon, 16 feet long.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179MXKU8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If none of that works, since your headset isn't that old, you could try exchanging it from wherever you bought it from.
Or, you could go here....
and submit a ticket for a replacement.
Hope that helps.
Yup! CableCreation. Here is the link to that. It supports the 5Gbps speed as well. Just can't get any standard connector. Sorry, I should've included that in the original comment. Also, if you need some extra length for your cable, CableCreation has an extension cable (16.4 Feet) basically that gives your rift or quest or any VR headset a much longer tether. Look into pulley systems as well! Linked that one too! The pulleys seem expensive but honestly, these are some of the best rated ones! If you have any other questions, I gotcha! I have all these products and am endorsing them cuz they work. Check Youtube to verify if you'd like! :)
