My bf (34m) and I (37f) of almost 3 years are moving into a new apartment together. The landlord at our current apartment has been really shitty to us, causing us to almost be homeless because he refused to renew the lease(he wants to turn the apartment into another air bnb). This was really traumatizing for us for the past few weeks not knowing if we would find a new home or not in time.
Luckily I found an apartment across town, which we are moving into the next few days. It's not the best, but at least it's a roof over our heads. To make myself feel better about things I thought I could decorate the apartment in a particular style. The apartment we have now is kind of just a hodge podge of things, no real theme or anything. I always loved cottage and country decor, particularly mushrooms.
This is where the AITA part comes in. I found a tapestry with mushrooms on it that I thought would look cute in the living room and go with the whole cottagecore vibe I want. I showed my bf and he said absolutely no way. I asked him why not and he said he hates mushrooms. I thought it was silly so I asked him why he doesn't like mushrooms and he replied about having a bad trip once in his early 20s. I said he was being unreasonable. I remember him telling me about the bad trip before, and it didn't seem that life altering. He said he thought his cats were humans and could talk to him. He never went any further into it, and it didn't seem to bother him much to tell me about the trip. It also hasn't seemed to affect his day to day life in any other way.
I should also add that I cook with mushrooms a lot and he has no problems eating them, really enjoys the dishes I make. He also said I could pick out a different tapestry that had some mushrooms on it but weren't so in your face. I think he's using this bad trip as an excuse to not let me pick out the tapestry that I want because he thinks it's ugly.
I'm only making this post because he told me to post it to reddit so I could see how much of an asshole I'm being. So reddit, AITA?
ETA: The tapestry in question here.
