i replaced the speaker on my sister’s red wolf and i used this one from amazon. it fits perfectly and sounds great.

it’s more likely that the wires are fine and it’s something internal with the speaker - the copper is pretty thin and once it snaps there’s no sound. i didn’t even need to use the wires that came with the new speaker. i just used the soldering iron to take them off and attach the original wires to it. just make sure you remember which wire goes to which side. :)
it could be that the motor is also just very loud - one of my 1999 babies has a VERY loud motor that nothing can be done about.
but if the speaker is dull, this is a perfect replacement for adults if you have to take it apart - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N4YW7G4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
if you could post a video of it, it'll help determine if it's the speaker or motors tbh
