I have been using Dr. Elsey's blue multiple cat variety of litter for years (I think I switched to it back in 2014). I was using it in my LR3 and would get that horrible wet litter streaks all over my gray (with black liner) unit. It looks hideous.
So when I got my PuraMax, the BoxieCat Pro gray bag that I had heard was a good litter was also on sale. I grabbed a bag of it for the PuraMax. I have liked it a lot so far, much smaller particles than I was used to. It's kep my PuraMax looking good unless I'm just not wiping it down occasionally.
I bought several more bags of it, but still had approximately 2 big bags (40lbs each) of the other stuff. I've been using the BoxieCat in the PuraMax and a regular litter box in my kittens cat cage. I'm FINALLY down to the very last bit of Dr. Elsey's for the LR3, so I'll be deep cleaning that one and starting fresh with the BoxieCat in it and get to see how it does in that. Probably not any worse, most likely better.
I use Arm and Hammer Cat Litter Deodorizer powder in the new trash bags that collect the used litter, I just sprinkle some in when I switch out the bags. It helps to keep that compartment/drawer a bit more fresh and helps absorb any moisture as well. I use odor absorbing gel/beads air freshener in my apartment like Fresh Wave or Arm and Hammer Fresh Scents. That's usually enough to keep my apartment fresh.
I do have air purifiers I can run if needed (one is the small plugmount by Hamilton Beach), and if you have a strong smell that you want to get rid of quickly, putting out a small amount of white distilled vinegar in a glass will do the trick. Vinegar attracts the bad smelling particles like a magnet and absorbs it. You only smell the vinegar at first or if sniffing right over the glass.

Just bought this slightly different one a week ago and it also seems good, but less of a scent. Solid product inside, more like a wax candle.
I also have this mini odor eliminator that works good if you don't want to run a large air purifier and are using more than just it to clear any strong smells. I wanted to stay away from anything that might create ozone as a byproduct. It should be in the immediate vicinity.
I recently switched to BoxieCat Pro Deep Clean (gray bag) from Dr. Elsey's (multi cat blue bag). I like it much better with smell and clumping plus not leaving slide marks in the robot boxes, though it's a finer particle size and much more trackable.
