You can always buy an OEM type cover at a later point if you do really need it. There's just a lot of other advantages for the newer Surface Pro 8.
The screen has a higher refresh rate and better color accuracy, the slim pens don't have issues with line jitter, and the slim pen 2 even has haptic feedback which is nice for feedback.
