I have tried both loops and table magnifying lamps. Really find the lamps better, like this one https://www.amazon.com/Brightech-LightView-Flex-Magnifying-Lamp/dp/B01K10XA1O/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Magnifying+light&qid=1612628642&sr=8-5
Looks neat, but for a temporary situation, I suggest just a cutting mat (if he doesn't already have one) and a magnifying lamp.
I have a Brightech magnifying light and I like it a lot, though it is larger and heavier than I expected so I'm considering getting a lighter (heh) clamp light to clip to my stand. This is my light. It's very bright and has a glass lens (more durable apparently) though that does add to the weight. It has both a weighted base and a clip.
