Electric kettle is good for temp control. I usually shoot for 185 F. Makes a huge difference on the cream. I use a model very similar to this and it works perfect.

I also pre heat my chamber in the kettle water, I dont pull it out until it's right at 185 and ready to brew, minimizes temp loss.
I've been considering buying a cheap 40 espresso machine that has a steam wand to froth milk. I had one years ago that made horrible espresso, but the stream wand worked well. Cant find anything that is standalone electric steamer with wand for house hold only commercial. I currently use something similar to this and it either over froths or under froths depending on the head you use
