The built in recorder not doing it for you? Yeah, me neither, Facebook/Twitter support, but not YouTube? I hear ya, searching for one ironically led me to another reddit post, and this product. It received a lot of praise in the comments, and it was specifying PS4.
Hi, OP here. So, although there were at least a few products that others linked to in the comments, this is the one I ended up buy that work in my application. https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-Model/dp/B004F9LVXC/
My signal flow was a little simpler than yours. Just HDCP compliant direct to the non-HDCP compliant LED wall controller, no dice. Install the splitter in between. Good to go.
If I were in your position currently, I might try to take a couple things out of the chain. If I had access to a device that I knew was not HDCP compliant I would run my computer into directly and see if it works. If it didn't, I would add the spitter. If that fixed it, then I would know at least the HDCP "handshake" has been broken as needed with the splitter then you'd know any other issues upstream of that would be something else.
I'm only vaguely familiar ElGato stuff so can't advise on that. Good luck.
For PS3 capturing you need specific splitters. Not all of them will work. I have had no issues with this one (and have got others to buy it too with no issues) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004F9LVXC
Some will NOT play nice. Even the one I linked always has a chance to be a dud but over the years it has shown to be reliable for people I've had buy it. The splitter I show has a Wall Outlet you need to plug in and then you plug the PS3 into the splitters Input and the splitters output goes to the capture card.
When it comes to the card, I haven't personally used Avermedia stuff but I've heard good things about them, that particular model I have no idea.
ViewHD 2 Port 1x2 Powered HDMI... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004F9LVXC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Yeah, you'll need one of these HDMI splitters to do the trick. Specifically the one I linked though, because the other ones I've tried I've had mixed results with. This works well with any other system that has HDCP too.
This has worked for me as a hdcp helper aa well as hdmi to hd component and whip back to hdmi (medieval I know)
It's HDCP, Linux isn't compliant with it so you get crap like this. Should be fine if you switch output to your Windows VM's graphics card.
This HDMI splitter works to strip HDCP https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-Model/dp/B004F9LVXC/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=2+port+hdmi+splitter&qid=1610555871&sr=8-9 but you're still gonna have the issue with Linux not being HDCP compliant. HDCP compliance is mandatory for Prime Video so that's why they do it, it's not to screw over linux users.
I dont know of anything available here in the states.
Here is one http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-HDMI-Splitter-1x2-1080P/dp/B004F9LVXC/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t
There are a few other ones, but I'm in Canada and trying to find one that isn't a million dollars up here.
You'll only get 1080p out of it but I got this for recording gameplay from my ps3 and I see no reason itll be any different for ps4
ViewHD 2 Port 1x2 Powered HDMI... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004F9LVXC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I had the same issue when my cable company upgraded the box. I got these two items off Amazon and it worked great. As was previously mentioned, it is a mess of wires. Each one of those adapters requires a power cable as well as the video cables.

So the HD-PVR2 has an HDMI input (no component). I picked up a PVR2 not because of HDMI but because my original PVR's recordings started having these weird flickering things and vertical lines and color distortions. They looked kind of like a video you would have had made in a mall kiosk c. 1990. I actually bought the PVR2 over a year and a half before I upgraded my cable box which now is HDMI only.
To get around the HDCP, I did some investigating and ended up picking up a $14 (it's $23 now) HDMI splitter. I tried it and found it does work for me.
Not advocating piracy, I'm simply offering a solution from one tired church volunteer to another.
Invest in this
Don't connect anything else to the second output and it will strip the HDCP signal coming from the mac mini.
so mac mini (out hdmi) to HDMI DA to Bluestream matrix switcher.
Hope that solves your issue and please remember that piracy is technically stealing, so don't misuse this tidbit of knowledge.
I’ve never used Apantac, but I’ve used the ViewHD 1x2 before. https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-Model/dp/B004F9LVXC/
I use this for my VitaTV.
