The still spirits airstill is way over priced for what it is but it is the only one made to produce alcohol. It can do this because it runs at 120V. Every other airstill are 750W and made for distilling water. So runs to hot to produce a decent percentage spirit.
But use a SCR with a cheap Water Airstill you then get a pot still that is very flexible. I do a striping run at 170v and the spirit run at 110v till it drops down to 60% ABV coming out of the spout then turn it up to 130v until I am in the tails.
Because I have full control of the power/temp I can collect a lot of high proof alcohol faster then the still spirits airstill as that only runs at one temp/power so takes ages to get to temp.
EDIT#
Just get this:
The cola wine didn't come out all that great but does make a nice whisky type thing.
Fermented it for ten days. After tasting wasn't all that great. Was very sweet from the sweeteners and gave me heart burn drinking it.
The Setup.
Filled her up with 4L of the cola wine to do a stripping run.
Ran it on max for 20mins. (or until you start to see something coming out).
Then set the SCR to 17/170v
Total of 900ml @ 40%. So ran another 4L so I ended up with a little under 2L low wines.
Spirit run.
17/170v for 14mins or until you see something dripping out. Chuck away the foreshots and heads. Drop down to 14/110v until the percentage drops down to 60% then turn it up to 15/130v. Collect in small jars.
Made my cuts and added enough of the cola wine to drop it down to 60%.
As for the cord it is a male PC power cable. You probably have one kicking around.
I Would also get this:
Even with the temp controls, all those do is shut off when it gets to temp. What isn't ideal. You want to get it to a temp and stay there, not turn off. Would set the still to max and use the SCR to adjust the temp.
For the stripping run. Fill it up with 4L of the wash.
Run it on max for 20mins. (or until you start to see something coming out). Then set the SCR to 17/170v. Collect till it drops down to 14% coming out of the spout.
