Oh interesting. I'll check into that. Have you found a need for an IR light? I see those recommended on here. I assume it's either "play with the lights on full blast" or buy one (or two?) of these things?

The rounded barrel of the body didn't allow it to plug into the Quest Pro cleanly, so I got a USB-C extender... but in the end it didn't throw enough IR light to work (it DID work well with the Quest 2).
Now I have a stationary one similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Orzero-Illuminator-Compatible-Disturbance-Sensitivity/dp/B08SHPKSSM/ref=sr_1_4?crid=YG5LD4FPET2L&keywords=VR%2BIR&qid=1681958513&sprefix=vr%2Bir%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-4&th=1
and it DOES work well with the Quest Pro. Definitely appreciate being able to play w/o the facial interface in the dark.
I found this guy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SHPKSSM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm going to give it a try. The reviews seem to confirm that it improves tracking.
u/OP, so are you talking about floor IR lights like:
Or the kind that plug into the headset like:
Which would be better?
I did in a separate post, but here it is.
I'm not saying this is the best one out there...I chose it based on price and ratings. The price seems to fluctuate daily (it's currently cheaper than what I paid). If you're interested in one, just search Amazon. I'm not shilling for that company--you might find one that you'll be happier with. I'm happy with mine--I have it sitting in my entertainment center (facing upwards towards the ceiling) and have it on a smart switch so I can tell my Alexa/Google Home to "turn on infrared light" when I'm settling in to play.
Argh! Just to address claims that I'm shilling or am a bot, I'm not. I've been a member of this community for ages and have been active on other VR subs since 2016.
I'll share a non-affiliate link to what I purchased because people (and bots) have been asking but I'm not suggesting this is the best product out there. I'm thrifty and purchased based on price/ratings. I'd also note that there are lots of different infrared lights made to be mounted on the Quest. I didn't get one of those because they draw power from the headset. This is the one I purchased. You have plenty of options to choose from if you're interested, this is just the one I settled on.
As to whether you need something like this, you don't. I get some light-bleed at the nose though, so it makes a world of difference for me. YMMV. Using an infrared light like this, however does work and you can even use passthrough in a completely dark room because the infrared light is visible through passthrough and allows you to see everything.
