Something like a toggle latch costs around 30-50 cents so the cost isn't an issue - it just requires extra time to create the actual design of it and make sure the quality is there - choosing the correct way to attach it to a steel frame, choosing the correct stainless, etc.
We don't manufacture an X stand but they are by far the most common type of stand since they are so cheap. Many people use them for gigging since they fold up nice. I have a list of about 10 products I am working on now but I would love to design a improved X style stand, the only issue from a business standpoint is they are so cheap that's it's almost impossible to compete on price. Our company does quite a bit of sales on Amazon and I am not even sure how some of these are sold so cheap (like this Yamaha one for less than 22.00). The biggest gripe we hear about X stands are they hit knees and become unstable when you need to play standing up.
