I've long abandoned using wireless buds of any kind for running. Instead, I use these headphones and this bluetooth transmitter/receiver. Very light, and the bluetooth will connect to any phone I need.

Get a 3.5mm Bluetooth Generation v5 Transmitter. I did a search on Amazon and got this Trond one which works with my BT Gen 5 Skull Candy Indy ANC (earpods) and Zune 30GB. I imagine it should be easier to pair with your car than with earpods, which is nuanced.
