A little late to the party, but I use this AP to get solid wifi anywhere in my house. Never have problems streaming (With Cox's 50mbps). The upgraded "AC" version is a bit prices but the one I linked isn't bad.

I recommend keeping your existing router, disabiling the wifi and using the a Ubiquity APs. Nothing better as far as range goes and the setup is super easy.

I was reading the description for two of the products listed in the link you posted and was wondering what the difference between these two products is:

  1. Ubiquiti Networks UniFi AP Enterprise WiFi System
  2. Ubiquiti UniFi Long Range Access Point, (2.4 GHz, UAP-LR-US, US Version)

Do you know?

Furthermore, the product descriptions say that setting these up aren't that user friendly. Where's the best place to start learning about basic networking, etc.?

Thanks for all the help.

if its just long range wifi you're after, buy this instead.

i bought one after playing with one at work, now i get 100 % wifi everywhere in the flat, and also half way down the street.
