A lot of people use the Sansi because they're full spectrum LED, strong, and not a dumb shade of white. Just looks like daylight.

Idrk what the draw is for yescoms besides that you can slip them in between shelves.

Do you need the light for just one pot? If so, you should take a look at the SANSI full-spectrum LED grow lights. It will fit in a standard lightbulb socket. You can use a 15W ($17) or 36W ($25.50) bulb.

Mammillaria sp. - front left

Bunny ears cactus (Opuntia microdasys 'Rufida') - back right

Fairy castle cactus (Acanthocereus tetragonus 'Fairy Castle') - front right

Not sure about the other one.

They need a lot of light and minimal water. I would buy a good grow light (I use this and this) and leave it on them 8-10hrs/day, ~5 or 6in away from the plants, or put them outside in full sun all day. Only water when soil is completely dry. I can't tell what they're potted in, but it sort of looks like tree bark chips. I would change that to a mix of cactus soil and perlite. Don't water for a few days before or after repotting.

Ah, that’s why I was wondering what you were growing. I’m growing houseplants, which have very different needs from plants grown for eating, especially chili plants, which need a ton of light. If mine don’t get enough light, they just won’t grow as fast, no big deal, you know?

My plants under my 36W are in a roughly 20 square foot area. But under that set-up, some of them are getting less light because they don’t even want that much light to begin with. So-called “low light” houseplants.

There is a diagram on Amazon that will show you the coverage for the 36w bulb. Look for the image titled “Tips of Hanging Distance and Time Setting.” Looks like you can get 2.5-4.2 square feet of coverage if you want to each plant get maximum light.

It does look like, from the reviews, some people are growing tomatoes, peppers, and herbs under these.

You can buy a good grow light if you can't give the plant enough sun. I use this and this, positioned ~6in from plants, and left on for 8-10hrs/day.

Also curious about this, going to tag /u/MeatyJonesTheRapper to see if he's got any thoughts on it.

In a post asking about a 100W COB/Quantum board, he said that it'd be too much light for a bucket build. Then the ChilLED he recommended is a 64W bulb according to this report, but he still recommends using it at only 25-50% capacity.

Therefore, what I'd determine is that you only really need a 16-32W bulb for a bucket build, which would mean the ones you've linked should be fine. Link for 24W and link for 36W, but I'd really like to get his thoughts on it since he seems really well-versed in all of this stuff whereas I'm just trying to draw conclusions from what I'm finding.

I'm also a little confused on the driver vs power supply thing. I'm wondering if there's a pre-assembled version of these higher quality lights available in the lower wattage that a bucket grower would need?

EDIT: Also curious about this Canagrow 35W LED which appears to be pretty much made for this application, if you have any thoughts.

EDIT 2: I found a pretty insane review of the Canagrow which has increased my confidence in the little 35W lightbulb, enough so that I'll probably be throwing that in my build whenever I get around to it.

This is the way. Have two on timers, need more. 😅 The 36W is a monster and the light throw is wider than with more narrow, column-shaped bulbs.

By far the most value for money, and the light is so bright it matches my skylight for impact. You can easily dress up the bare bulb with a rattan/wicker or other suitable pendant shade if you want.

Hi!

I started with these. They are fine for seedlings and I use them now to supplement my other lights. They have a timer that you have to turn in and it will automatically turn off, but if you’re using a power strip with a timer (like I am) you have to turn it on everyday. Oh also, my friend gave me one of her lights of the same type and it died soon after. Not sure how long she had it for, but I don’t expect mine to last all that long.

I got this when I realized the first one wouldn’t bring my tomatoes to flowering and I need a stronger light. I got my tomatoes and peppers to produce with this light. It’s $100 though.

These are great. I use them for supplemental light as my veggies are at different stages because I plant in succession. It’s much stronger than #1. I have used it for my peppers too and they loved it.

I just got this one yesterday and according to my free light meter app, it’s off the charts with output. I doubt the meter is accurate but it works well for comparison between my lights. I even check the light coming in through the windows to learn more about how lights compare the sun. Surprise, the sun is bright! :) So far I think this is my favorite. It’s inexpensive, had tons of reviews, and I plugged it into this lamp - https://www.target.com/p/cantilever-floor-lamp-brass-project-62-8482/-/A-50598682

... it looks great and covers all of my plants with a super strong output.

Lastly, these are coming in a few days. I bought a bookshelf that I want to hook these up to on the bottom of each shelf. They also have great reviews. Let me know if you want an update on them when I get them.

BTW, I am growing tons of veggies in my house, but flowering veggies require the most light which is why I mentioned them. I have a bunch of houseplants too. Let me know if you have any questions!

I wish you the best of luck!
