this screen is the closest I can find no matter what it'll take up 2 bays and you'll have to do some case modding to get it to work. As far as I know the only ones made for 5.25" bays are the fan ones and they aren't customizable screens
I'll add this in the comments for those interested:
First shot at a proper Battlestation. This thing is a blast to use and is a productivity monster. I do PhD research and develop hardware/software. Leaving this here for documentation :).
Daily driver is either Manjaro on the PC or Mac depending on the day, then dual boot Windows when things get desperate (SolidWorks, photoshop/illustrator, other BS). First time running Manjaro as daily driver and am in love. Highly recommend.
Yes that's an overclocked 4.1Ghz 32 core 3970x Threadripper running in an NZXT 510 Elite midsize case... Details on how that's even possible below...
Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X (64) OC @ 4.100GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
Board: Asus TRX40-Pro
Memory: 128 GB Corsair Vengance RGB 3600.
Case: NZXT 510 Elite, modified
Monitor: AOC Agon AG493UCVX 49". link.
Monitor stand: link.
CPU Cooling: Deepcool 360X AIO. Custom white sleeve (liked the looks of it). Anti-leak, and largest footprint for the big TR4 socket.
Disks: Firecuda M.2 (About as fast as they get). Second M.2 for high-speed backups.
Case fans (8 total): 2x exhaust (120 and 140mm), 2x 140mm front intake, 3x 120mm on radiator, 1x 140mm in bottom (hidden) as intake pushing air up.
Small HDMI screen for cpu/gpu temp. runs Conky.
Electric desk. link.
Brio 4k cam. link. Amazing.
Keyboard and Mouse: here and here.
Custom stuff:
Modified NZXT case to fit 360mm radiator. Also to fit 140mm fan in 'basement' area.
Industrial Velcro power cables under the electric desk. Velcro mounts for external Samsung SSD drives on the side of the desk (Can't upgrade these damn macbook pros).
Some custom lighting in addition to NZXT stuff in case.
Custom PC shelf from pipe with wood is solid as heck (can buy at Home Depot in the states).
Alexa controlled lighting behind monitor. link.
Notes:
I really liked the aesthetics of the NZXT 510 Elite case but it didn't have the proper space to fit the cooling I needed for a massive 3970x. But...
(I have a few power tools) + (I am stubborn) - (Lian Li O11 isn't as nice) = sparks.
There's just enough space to fit a 360mm AIO. Could flip the hose intakes on the 360mm, but after some research, it won't effect AIO cooling or pump life, so leaving it for now. Could have went custom loop (I may still) but in terms of maintenance, can't beat an AIO.
Wireless keyboard and mouse make for such a clean workstation!
There's a Belkin usb-c hub under the desk (held there with industrial velcro) to run everything between the Mac and PC. Works awesome. Not flawless, but very close.
PC Idles at 42-50C (ambient 22C), whisper quiet. (trick: after some research, pc temps drop 8C just by cracking front glass open 1 cm, thanks gamernexus!). 78-80C under load, louder w/ fans but not disruptive at all. I do a lot of simulation work and having all 32 cores/64 threads running is a treat.
The side mounted RTX 2080 Super ( Bought a few months prior to the 3080 release...) actually stays surprisingly cool under load due to the 5 fans on the front intake + radiator blowing air across the face of it. There's a solid inch between the fans and the side glass so haven't had any temp issues running under load. Totally for aesthetics, f*** off :).
The 49" AOC ultrawide is great. AOC monitor has KVM built in. Took some arm twisting to get full res in Mac OS, see a post on that for details. I can swap back and forth from mac and PC with the remote. It's not perfect but pretty darn close.
I'll post the .files for the manjaro setup if peeps are interested.
This was fun to build.
EDIT (to answer some few questions):
DE: GNOME
Followed a lot of these guys' recommendations here and here (I'm a bit new with customizations, usually run vanilla distros to dev FPGA code in Vivado). Love it.
Dock: Dash to dock.
Bars: Polybar.
Still working on a good WM. Manual or PaperWM right now. Open for suggestions!
Wallpaper: here. Came from somewhere on reddit when I was lurking...
Icons: Candy.
Sure. It's a mini hdmi monitor I found on Amazon. I run a usb cable and the hdmi cable up and out to the back cable management panel and then out one of the pci slots and plug into the rear IO panel. Linux and Windows see it as a second monitor. In Manjaro I run Conky on the second screen (there's a setting in the conky .config file to tell which monitor you want to use) to show the temps and just crank the font size up. You can of course put anything you want there, some folks do GIFs or little videos.
I'd like to do more as there are some cool graphical things you can do with Lua + conky, but I haven't gotten that far yet.
