I tried using a cheap $20 light table for tracing and the results meh. I now use this neewer 95+ CRI light that I also used for video work and Im more than happy with the results. The main issue was that the cheap light table was too weak but I also think I'm getting better colors with the neewer.
You should also consider what you're gonna use to hold the negatives, this is the part that really makes me hate dslr scanning, since I don't have an sturdy tripod or copy stand it's nearly impossible to get sharp results. In the end I went with an old slide copier (basically a tube) it eliminates the shaking and the light leaks.
