Thanks jsowers! It's a great feeling :)

A couple things I learned in the writing process, especially since I created the PDF first.

  1. I should have read the Amazon guides for publishing on Kindle first (http://www.amazon.com/Publish-Amazon-Kindle-Publishing-ebook/dp/B004LX069M and http://www.amazon.com/Building-Your-Book-Kindle-ebook/dp/B007URVZJ6)

They talk about how to write your book in Microsoft Word and how to format it before you really get going. This makes it SUPER easy to edit, add a TOC, and more when you're finishing up. It takes small learning curve to get it all dialed in initially, but it's definitely worth it in the long run to make sure your book looks correct on all devices.

Then if you want to create a PDF with more artsy content pages like me, you can design a page template in InDesign and copy/paste everything in.

  1. If you are just publishing to Kindle or other eReaders, or if you just don't care about making every page look extra special, you really don't need to design anything but a cover, which is great. I would definitely recommend hiring a designer with experience to design your cover. It will definitely give you a leg up on other self-published stuff where people think "I can design my own cover!" when they're not really designers.

  2. See #1! Once you know how to format it and set up your Word document, you can basically write seamlessly without worrying about it. Mine book was a little tougher since each "Do and Don't" is it's own chapter basically, but a normal book is very easy to format.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions.
