Yeah, $60 is a bit much. At that point I'd probably just purchase a new Edge with all-in service.
I did pick up this one off of Amazon for $5, but it didn't seem to work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00M77HMU0
Heads up, the Amazon Basics USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter has the AX88179 chipset and is confirmed to work perfectly on the Switch. It's a simply plug-and-play installation. Just make sure you get the USB 3.0 version and not 2.0 and you're golden.
And FYI, the AX88179 chipset actually has a 2-3% failure rate in the first 6 months so no matter what brand you get, you have a small chance of it dying on you in the first year. So I recommend the Amazon Basics one simply because of their customer service. You know Amazon will gladly send you out a new one no questions asked with 2 day shipping if yours stops working. It's also the cheapest of the bunch as well so that's another plus.
As others said, the ethernet port is 100 Mbps but I used this adapter and get my 345 Mbps download speed. The usb-A port is 2.0 so the most you will get is about 480 Mbps give or take. I probably won't use the usb port for anything else so it works for me. Not sure it even matters but that 100 Mbps limit was a bad decision on someone's part.
would something like this work to hook the TPCast router to your computer?
