My husband is a respiratory therapist so he’s the person who would be keeping you breathing in the hospital.
He said no on getting one. He said by the point you need oxygen you’ll need other treatments.
He said it can be hard to properly dose the oxygen and you can send someone into shock with the wrong amount once they are in shock they will die without the hospital.
We have three children and he refused to get one. So that should tell you a lot as he is fully qualified to give someone oxygen. We could afford to buy 5 of them and not even flinch so money isn’t a factor in the decision not to have one.
Please use these very carefully.
Cpap on the other hand he is totally in support of for almost anyone to use at home. We have three and they are amazing when you are sick!!
If you do get one please spend some time on the machine BEFORE you need it. They can be difficult to get used to at first. He recommends watching tv while trying to use it at its lowest setting to settle in.
I’ve found this style of mask most comfortable :
Simplus RollFit Full Face Seal/Cushion Replacement - Large https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KJKBJQO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sjEuEb6EAMBZ8
We have the Cpap , albuterol and qvar on deck for breathing, anything more than that is straight to the hospital.
If you can get your hands on a nebulizer that would be good to have on hand in a really serious breathing emergency.
