What do most people eat before a swim workout? When I run I tend to get up early enough to drink coffee and eat something light like toast. Is this a good approach for swimming as well?

I might be weird but I can't eat anything before a swim or anything heavy immediately after. I'd puke or get nauseated. Here is what I do.... (Grain of salt, my focus is on dropping weight and getting the most out of my swims and stopping cramping.)

The following is designed for a 2 mile swim at a 55 stroke per minute rate and a target time of 58 minutes to complete. The pre-workout mix is probably too strong for small bodies and short swims. Cut out the L-Citrulline Malate powder if you are on BP meds.

Pre-swim (normally 45 minutes after I wake up):

During the swim:

  • Drink the second half of the Gatorlyte drink.
  • whatever pool water I manage to inhale. (kidding)

Post-swim (as soon as possible) (blended together):

  • 170 grams of nonfat vanilla greek yogurt
  • 7oz of Jumex "strawberry-banana nectar"
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2oz water
