I highly recommend microSD cards and a usb adapter instead of usb sticks/drives. They don't get hot like drives and don't need that much power to operate. Performance wise they rock.

You could probably get those adaptors and the OTG cheaper, I got them on eBay for 1 and 2 bucks each from Chinese sellers, takes a while to arrive but works.
