If you are in downtown SF don't expect many shortwave signals to reach your radio. If you are in a suburban area during the 9 p.m. hour you can probably receive RNZI (New Zealand) at 13840 kHz, and R. Romania at 9850 kHz if you are outdoors. These are both strong and I'm picking them up right now. But, you need a radio that can be tuned to those frequencies accurately and you don't have one. You may get lucky, though.

Here is a good collection of shortwave reception videos I made in Northern California. I suggest a Tecsun PL-310 ET as a decent shortwave starter radio.
