If you are staying on concrete, which I do, your ropes just won't last long. So I go cheap and replaceable PVC speed ropes. When the middle starts to fray or gets sketchy, I throw the next one in the bag and bring it because I know this one will break soon.

Like this one . Walmart in the US used to have these ones for 2.97$USD and tbh I have a closet full of them because I stocked up when they started not carrying them anymore. They are great, last about 3 months and replace. I keep them around in case a nicer rope is starting to get sketchy from concrete use.

This will add up though so if you like the idea of a mat, it's probably worth the investment, as other's have commented.
