This is my favorite thread in blogsnark, swear to god.
- Do you live on the West Coast like me? Is the air outside your home currently poison? The Coway air purifier that the Wirecutter recommends fucking works. I've suffered through two years of horrible fire seasons with this thing. The air outside is currently 'Very Hazardous' but the air inside my apartment is safe and clean. When the air isn't poison, it also keeps the room a little cooler and provides lovely white noise at night. It's still in stock at Bed Bath and Beyond.
- Trader Joe's fresh ravioli, specifically the Butternut Squash and the Lemon Ricotta. The Butternut Squash ravioli is sooooo good. After you cook it in boiling water for a few minutes, toss it in a frying pan with one tablespoon of melted, browned butter and some salt and pepper. If you have any fresh herbs (especially sage!) toss those in too.
- These are the best, softest, plushest blankets in the whole world. I bought one the minute I realized quarantine was happening and it was a great idea.
- Need a baby shower gift? My friend is due next week and I got her The Short Years baby book. The idea is that it's a baby book you will actually create, because you let them do all the work. Mama downloads an app and once a week when she's brain dead and sleep deprived on the couch watching Netflix, the app will prompt her to answer a few questions and select a few pictures from her phone. They take care of the rest of it and send you the completed pages when they're ready. It was easy to send to my friend as a surprise present and she's really happy with it.
- I really like Dr Jart Every Sun Day Sun Fluid SPF 50+. I usually use Biore Aqua like everybody else, but I don't like buying skincare stuff through Amazon, my local store is closed for COVID and I wanted something I could buy more conveniently. Plus I had store credit. It's a similar texture to La Roche Posay Anthelios and ROHTO Skin Milk, but it definitely smells nicer and less..idk...baby powdery than those two. Doesn't break out my very sensitive skin. No white cast. If you want a mineral sunscreen, the only one I find acceptable for my face is Elta MD.
- I bought these pajamas on a whim from Target and they're my favorite thing ever!!! They're incredibly soft, cute as hell, ultra comfortable and not restricting, and they're only $22. One of my better impulse buys of the year.
If your home is well sealed and you keep the windows closed, there should be low smoke penetration aside from when you enter/leave. Check the coverage of any air purifier and then buy enough to overlap (eg if it’s a 700 sq foot purifier and you have 900 square feet, get two).
I’m a fan of the Coway Airmega.
It’s worth also mentioning that it isn’t exactly healthy to also be cooped up inside breathing high CO2 because all your windows and doors are closed. Try and get out and go somewhere with good filtration (eg mall, grocery store, etc).
- Buy backup/replacement filters for your furnace. I used to keep one on hand, but now I've got 3.
- If you can swing it, buy one of these purifiers and replacement filters (off brand/generic are fine in a pinch, but usually don't fit well in my experience). Keep your old one in the bedroom, put the new one in the main living area.
I don't really get the boxfan/filter thing. Were people using it to draw in cool air in the evening? During the day, I'd be more likely to have the fan exhausting out...which doesn't really make sense to filter.
Given all the latest air quality issues happening in the NE US, I imagine demand on these have gone up. It's possible some deal may pop up for Prime Day. Amazon Prime has the Coway Mighty on sale for $143.
just checked, exact same one the OP posted. Could be because we both got the recommendation from the wire cuter.
