Black elastic bands. Unless you're female or actually a biker, anything else is trying too hard.

Source: I had long hair for many years. Always wished there was something more interesting I could do with it. There wasn't.

edit: brown, gray, navy, etc. are fine, but I'd stick to neutral colors only.
