If you are buying a brand new device I would HIGHLY recommend picking up the Amazon Fire Stick 4K MAX. The MAX will play AV1 codec videos which is the future that everyone is moving to because it is lower bandwidth for the same quality and smaller files for the same level of quality.

$35 currently. That is a steal if you ask me. You can't even build a Rasberry Pi for that price.

"unofficially" means they don't know shit;

Fire TV Stick 4K Max technical details
Ports
HDMI ARC output, micro USB for power only
also notice there is no max+ethernet bundle
as they do with the 2019 4k stick.

here's more proof aftvnews are a bunch of whores...
they say NOTHING about the fact that the max is
refresh capped at 60fps, so 120hz tv owners are
left guessing till mid october when some youtuber
can actually test this out.

I highly recommend for the cheapest option and the best option if you don't NEED AV1 support that you look at the Walmart ONN 4K Android TV mini-box. It has the same remote that "Chromecast with Google TV" has. You really can't beat the price for a 4K Android TV box. It is only $20.

If you really must have AV1 support for future proofing then you want the Amazon Firestick 4K Max for $55.

AV1 is going to the codec of the future. Already Netflix, Google, YouTube and Hulu are already offering streaming via AV1, especially for 4k streaming.

One thing to be aware of with Amazon is that they push a lot of adds for their movies and TV shows and other streaming services (think HBO, Showtime, etc). Amazon is making changes so you can NOT change your launcher to avoid the ads. The other thing to be aware of is that if your Internet is down you can still watch Jellyfin but you can't go to the main launcher, you have to go in to settings and apps and launch Jellyfin that way when the internet is down.

Spend $35 on a Fire Stick. Make it a Smart TV link to current sale stick

Could but until you test you don't know if it would be choppy. I also don't think Exoplayer devs would add AV1 support for older devices unless they were pretty sure it would actually play well. There are already a number of different sticks that already support AV1.

You don't have to choose just Amazon, though the Amazon Fire Stick 4K Max is probably the cheapest stick in that range that will play everything out there including AV1 videos. It was really cheap for Christmas ($35).

Here is a list of some other boxes that are similar to the Fire Stick 4K Max.

Getting a stick to get a client for your TV and decent remote is going to give you the best Jellyfin experience in my opinion.
