I always referred to them as crash pads. There are a lot of options. I got some for snowboarding but should probably toss them on when skating too
I got the body prox off Amazon. You really can't see them under baggy shorts and you can take all the pads out.

I feel your pain, literally. I fell on my hip twice in one session and was really sore and bruised. It sucked even more given I am a side sleeper. So now, I don't care how dorky I may feel, at our age, getting hurt sucks more and takes longer to heal. I bought these (https://www.amazon.com/Bodyprox-Protective-Snowboard-Protection-Tailbone/dp/B07KJJ3YF3/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=hip+pads+skating&qid=1594830082&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExQU8yM0NRUVVGVE0wJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTYzOTI0TVZVNktYUFRaWFRCJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyMjYyMTUyRVgwNlpWSkVZSVczJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== ) have fallen a ton and has saved my hip countless times - I never ride without them.
