I've been using that one for 6 years now

This scale (the 500g model) is highly recommended around the electronic cigarette community for measure very small amounts (drops or grams) of liquid in e-juice production. It measures to the hundreths for grams, in my experience is extremely accurate, and it comes with two 200g weights so you can verify it's accuracy.
I've ended up primarily using it for macro counting for my meal preps.
Edit: And that's why you read the post text and not just the title. Sorry, I was overly excited to offer my recommendation.
i bought this one for mixing but i also use it for coffee. https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20
AWS-LB-501
It is ok, but the 60 sec. auto off drives me nuts!
For the same price I have this one with the USB capability: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Kitchen-Weighing-Precision-Electronic/dp/B07WVRFNXP/
for a little more as /u/EdibleMalfunction says the AWS-LB-501 is the way to go (although for travelling the one before is great!): https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20/
Hey /u/Xexist, this is the scale I picked up and so far am VERY happy with...http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UGBG20?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00
I saw it referenced in several posts and on several sites before I bought it and I am so glad I did! After mixing my first few batches with a syringe, this thing is a time-saving god-send. :)
Most people use this one: http://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-Scales-LB-501-Digital/dp/B005UGBG20
But there are cheaper ones that do the job like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Etekcity-Table-Top-Features-Batteries-included/dp/B00QFCG5ZQ/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1436125335&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=0.01g+scale
The first one comes with calibration weights. The 2nd one doesn't, so you will need to purchase a 500g weight separately (about $8).
There are many other scales out there. Just remember you need one that has a resolution of 0.01g (hundredth of a gram).
If you want a highly accurate and repeatable scale, you will need to spend several hundred bucks (even in the thousands). But these cheapo Chinese scales as probably good enough for us.
American Weigh Scales LB-501 Digital Kitchen Scale has been suggested in here before. I know this because I added it to my amazon wish list, where it is waiting for me to order.
Have had pretty good luck with these.
VG 13+7Sh (Price is different from when I bought it, recommend difference source)
Various bottle options, take your pick.
Most of the stuff is from a recent measure by weight guide posted here, here's the amazon link. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005UGBG20/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Definitely read the FAQ, but I'm bored so here's a link to everything you need for the best prices I'm aware of. Don't buy "DIY kits", they will never be enough.
LB-501 scale (Amazon)
1 Gallon VG (Amazon)
1 Gallon PG (Amazon)
60ml bottles (BullCityFlavors)
3ml Pipettes (BullCityFlavors, for fixing mistakes)
Wash bottle (Amazon, for dispensing PG; VG will not work as it's too thick)
Ketchup bottles (Amazon, for dispensing VG)
Flavors (BullCityFlavors will give you the widest variety for the lowest prices)
Flavor organizer (Amazon, holds 65 30ml flavor bottles)
Labels in case you wanted to be fancy (Amazon)
And for nicotine, you have two main choices that consistently do well. Carolina Xtract's Supercritical Nicotine is the best, period, but it has a premium pricetag. The cheaper but still good option is Liquid Nicotine Wholesalers. Can't link to nicotine due to the rules.
Download eJuice Me Up for calculating recipes into grams per ingredient. It may look like it's from the 90s but I guarantee you it will be the best recipe calculator you will ever use. Just make sure you select 100mg/L.
As for the recipes themselves, your best resources are this subreddit and AllTheFlavors.

Double check that scale to be sure it is the high resolution LB-501 that measures down to 0.01g, because they sell a cheaper one that only weighs down to 0.1g.
Oh, shit! Good call! I was looking at the cheaper one. This is the correct one?
Thanks for the twist top cap tip and words of encouragement!
This is what I have. It does the job quite nicely. No drawbacks I can think of. I lasted a week with syringes and the endless frustration of cleaning and inaccurate measurements before I got the scale.
On Ebay American Weigh Scales LB-501 or on Amazon American Weigh Scales LB-501
Was sold out on Amazon for some time but this scale is excellent if you want to mix up to 500g (~300ml in a 100g container). if you don't plan on mixing batches over 120ml (in a container that weighs 50g or less):
American Weigh Scales ACP-200 Digital Pocket Scale, 200 by 0.01 G
is sufficient. I highly recommend the LB-501 though.
If he's really your friend then you'll let him mix by weight. Here's another set of spark notes

Buy via Amazon US and use their Global Shipping option (which somehow includes all UK duty and vat liability) for $45.83 / £35.37.
It'll take 2-3 weeks to arrive and you'll need a US->13a converter (a quid or two from Argos etc) but nowhere in the UK gets close on price.
