I use a 4 bay TerraMaster which is one of the few that doesn't automatically turn off after 10 minutes. If you use Windows some of them have drivers to prevent it but I don't & it's just more hassle so I bought this one. But as someone pointed out they aren't NAS boxes by themselves. To remedy this I bought a Raspberry Pi, threw OpenMediaVault on it, & called it a day. The only thing this combo does is expose drives to my network. My separate server does all the heavy lifting & sends the finished product over LAN to the drives.

This 4-bay enclosure or this 2-bay storage (on sale currently) may suit your needs, both support 2.5" SATA SSDs and HDDs / 3.5" SATA HDDs, and feature the USB 3.1 (Gen1) type c interface, but it's down-compatible to USB 2.0. For the 2-bay unit, if the duplicator mode is not enabled, it can simply serve as a HDD enclosure.
