The case comes in two parts. It has a rubber/silicon wrap that goes around the entire phone, then the colored band that goes around the border. I haven't dropped it yet, so I can't attest personally for it's effectiveness, but I like these type of cases because when you drop your phone it is most likely to crack if you drop it on an edge or a corner. If that were to happen with this case, the plastic band would crack instead, and the rubber would absorb the rest of the shock. You'd have to buy a new case, but that is better than buying a new phone.

This case, made by the same company, is the same idea, and offers more protection from what I have heard. It is bulkier, and I was looking for something that was slimmer, which is why I went the direction I did.
