I got the [Arturia MiniLab MkII](www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSNIVKE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xLNfEbXXF8S5G) when I was just starting out and still use it all the time. Really great keys and pads for the price and comes with some excellent software too.
Don't get the Akai mini keyboards. They suffer from a bad design that will result in broken keys eventually. The actual keys on the Akai MPK Mini (and similar devices) are constructed from a singular piece of plastic and the flex point of said keys is too thin to be durable over long periods of time. Here is a picture of the internals of the Akai MPK Mini. Very much constructed like a cheap toy keyboard, and Akai treats it as such. You cannot buy replacement parts for it.
Akai's regular sized keyboards don't have this issue.
For an affordable mini keyboard my personal recommendation is the Arturia Minilab mk2. Much more durable build quality and a better design overall. The only real downside is the pads are worse and it is a heavier keyboard, but the trade off is worth it.
