I was browsing through Amazon looking at Gundam products sold / fulfilled by Amazon (as I do once a week or so) and noticed this new listing that’s available for preorder.
Not much is really available in terms of information but here’s a blurb from the webpage:
Description - The iconic world of Gundam comes to life in this exciting 4.5 inch build a figure. With exceptional detail- these figures are the perfect addition to any Gundam Collection
Features & details - GUNDAM Infinity Series (Build a Figure) - 4.5 inch figure - Each figure comes with interchangeable parts and accessories - RX-78-2 GUNDAM figure - Ages 6+
The “Infinity” Product line isn’t something I’m familiar with so I went searching and wasn’t able to come up with anything.
It almost sounds like could be a bit of a throwback to the Gundam Action figures they sold in the early 2000’s at department stores (Walmart, K-Mart, Target, etc.)
The Gundam Universe figures while awesome are pricey when trying to get an action figure for a kid (I went through this a few years back when my (at the time) 4 year old wanted a Gundam and I didn’t want to give him an HG kit that I would have to constantly put back together for him.
Cool stuff, maybe they’re laying down some framework for whatever may come of the Live Action movie. Should be interesting to see!
Edit: And another thing worth mentioning that I just noticed as that this lists the Manufacturer as being BANDAI AMERICA rather then just “Bandai” or one of their other sub product / manufacturer lines.
Edit #2: Annndddd now I just noticed there is also a listing for the Wing Gundam & Barbatos
Edit #3: This will hopefully be the last edit but I think I might have put together some pieces here… when I was in Target recently I noticed they had some really cheap (and shitty) looking Dragon Ball Super figures that were selling for $10. Again, I thought it was cool though because they looked similar to the figures I used to have as a kid (although, they honestly look kinda shittier). Anyways, I looked up to see what that “line” is called and it’s the Dragon Ball Super: Evolve line of figures. So I went searching on Amazon and found a listing on there and sure enough that’s also being made by Bandai America. Here’s a picture of what it looked like in the store to give you some frame of reference. So what does this all mean?!?
TL;DR: It looks like Bandai (America) is starting to bring plain ‘ol action figures back to the masses, selling them at kid friendly prices and in general Department stores. These figures are low quality, but articulated and have swappable parts similar to the Mobile Suit: In Action figure line from the early 2000s.
Whew, that was a wild ride. Thanks for tagging along! 😄
