I got a SUV gun and I've used MAP Gas with it too since I was using the TS8000 before to sear steaks. But the game changer ( if you have space for the big propane tank ) is this refill adapter I got from Amazon to refill the 1lb tanks of propane to use with my SUV gun. It may be frowned upon to refill the 1lb propane tanks but ehh, propane ain't cheap where I'm from.
You can get something like this https://www.amazon.com/Flame-King-YSNAX1-092-Propane-Torch/dp/B08DDHWVFX and then an adapter like https://www.amazon.com/GasOne-Propane-Refill-Adapter-refills/dp/B077SP5BJP. But, I was thinking about this yesterday. Between the cost of the torch, the bricks and a few other parts to keep it all together, it may be cheaper to just buy something like the 1-burner Mr. Volcano (currently $88 on Amazon)
I cant see how there is a shortage. Not many people are setup to use those. But why not just refill your small bottle with a large cylinder or go to a place that refills for you?
Or just buy a refill adaptor and do it yourself as there is no shortage of propane anywhere. It is perfectly safe to refill yourself.

I just returned a Bernzomatic blue propane yesterday to home depot. I had it in my garage since January to use as a spare for some soldering work I was doing. I planned to return a few weeks ago but never got around to it.
