I'm not an expert on lights, but I have acquired and used a number of them. All with good success. The first one I use in a grow tent and it produces the red blue light. It also has a switch for veg stage and flowering stage which you may find helpful for the strawberries (?). The more recent versions I have bought all produce a white light and have reostats so you can fine tune the amount of light. I also have them on pullies (usually come with the light) that allow you to hang and adjust height.
It sounds like you are seriously intrigued with lighting and I would encourage you to experiment. Hell, we all may be buying our light kits from you one day! But in the meantime, your plants will do just fine with one of the lights on the market, provided everything else is controlled well.
A gizmo that comes in real handy is the power strip with integrated timer. I have the kind with mechanical timer, but this digital is more versatile. One side the outlets are operated by the timer (lights, maybe fans) and the other side is always on (pumps, bubblers).
