I got this GE Antenna and this Preamp in my attic and that setup is working great. I also get the high VHF stations which I had trouble getting initially.
The preamp is mounted directly below the antenna and is powered via a power supply in the basement where the coax terminates.
Here is the one from Amazon I have used and recommend.
If you need to strengthen the signal from your antenna get a preamp like this one from Amazon. You mount the premap in the attic next to your antenna and the power supply at the end of that antenna feed run just before the 3 way splitter.
..and this is the antenna I have along with the above 2 items.
ABC in DC is channel 7. At 25 miles from the station in Prince William County I get 84 field strength signal with a clear line of sight to the antenna. i.e. no hills in the way.
I use an in attic antenna with preamp to get all of the base channels.
Both ABC and CBS are VHF with CBS on channel 9.
Get a rabbit ear report to see what you might have in the way of interference.
If you do really need an amp, think you'd probably do a lot better with a higher quality pre-amp specifically designed for low noise. Here are a couple:

I own the non-app version of the first one after my previous one burned out after 8+ years. Couldn't be happier.
