I need some help with my vinyl setup. I've labored over trying to find the fix but I can't seem to figure it out. No matter what I do, I can't stop getting scratchy, poor audio quality on both new and old records. See my setup in the image below and each componant described below:

Key:

1) Technics Direct Drive Automatic Turntable System - SL-D202

2) Schiit Audio - SYS - Volume Control and 2-Input Switch (for switching to AUX)

3) ART DJPRE II Phono Preamp

4) SMSL SA-36A Pro 20WPC TDA7492PE Digital Amplifier

5) ONKYO SKF-100 Speakers

Heyo! Just picked up a uturn orbit WITHOUT a built in preamp. I had a digital amp and bookshelf speakers already and though that would be enough. I was wrong. Sound is super quiet. I have been interested in these speakers (Audio Engine A5+) but not sure if I need additional hardware on top of those built in speakers to make the music happen. I've been reading that you need preamp and amp and then speakers but it seems like there's all sorts of "well not if you have this". Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

What's your budget for the amp? The SMSL SA-50 is excellent, and its little brother the SA-36 isn't bad, either. The Lepai LP2020 is also super popular, and they seem pretty reliable, although I don't think the sound quality matches the SMSL ones.

Most of those look like they're less powerful than the Pyle you were looking at, but that's because Pyle uses some very creative math in their marketing. If you look at the spec sheet, that PTA4 is actually good for less than 20 watts per channel, making it weaker than any of the stuff I've recommended. Also, those drivers are fairly sensitive and it's unlikely you'll need more than a couple watts.
