I based my research on that powerbank list as well. I bought the UGreen Mini 10000 PD for a few reasons.
- I already own the Anker Powercore II 6700, which is the highest rated <10000mAh powerbank on the list. It's completely sufficient to get me through a week (phone in Airplane Mode, occasionally using GPS). It's lighter even than the Nitecore NB10000 of fame.
- If I want a 10000mAh battery instead of the 6700mAh battery I already own, then it's probably because I really want the extra battery life. I looked at the first few 10000mAh power banks with highest energy to weight ratio; see the Energy to Weight tab of the google doc at the bottom of this page: Ultralight Dandy Power Bank Guide. Those are:
- Nitecore 10000mAh ($60,150g=5.29oz)
- Poweradd EnergyCell 10000 ($13 at Walmart, 170g=6.0oz)
- Poweradd Powerbank 10000 (I couldn't find it to buy it)
- UGreen Mini 10000 PD ($30 at Amazon, 185g=6.5oz by my measurement).
- I didn't feel like paying $30 extra for the Nitecore to save 1.2 ounces compared to the UGreen. Heresy for /r/Ultralight, I know. I max out at about $20 to save an ounce.
- The Poweradd EnergyCell is cheap and is second-lightest, but it doesn't have quick charging, so it takes much longer to charge itself (and, less important to me, takes longer to charge other devices). The Poweradd also doesn't have pass-through charging.
- The UGreen Mini has quick-charging (input and output), and has pass-through charging (possibly saving time sitting around waiting to charge multiple devices in a town; I imagine I'd want to charge the battery while using my phone and keeping it topped off simultaneously). The UGreen Mini also can charge two devices at once (so I can plug multiple things in and ignore it overnight, without having to check when to plug in the next thing). These factors led me to choose the UGreen Mini.
I've only had the UGreen Mini for a few weeks, and haven't used it on the trail, but I tested it out and it does quick charge my Moto X4. (When pass-through charging, or charging two devices, the quick-charge functionality doesn't work per my testing, but that's fine. When pass-through charging, it probably doesn't work in order to avoid overheating the battery. When charging two devices, it *shouldn't* work because there's no guarantee that both devices can take the same quick charging voltage; so the battery defaults to 5V output to avoid damaging something.)
So I'm happy.
p.s. You may also be interested in this one. It's not on the list; I emailed the list maintainer and he said that it hasn't had energy efficiency testing done, which is why it wasn't on there. I suspect it would be ranked very highly if on the list. It might take the #2 spot away from the UGreen, or it might take #3 (among 10000mAh batteries).
