Why not get something that supports the AAC codec? There's lots of adapters that do support it.

If an adapter doesn't support AAC, It would revert to SBC and be no different than directly using it with the system. Since that's the only other codec that airpods support.

If you want to use bluetooth audio with the system get a third party adapter.

The system audio only supports the SBC codec, so your quality and latency would be roughly as garbage regardless of which headset/earbuds you use.

Third party adapters support a wider range of codecs, like AAC for airpods or APTX LL for super low latency.
